Man dead following house fire in Dickson County

DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Multiple agencies are working to determine the cause of a fire in Dickson County that led to a homeowner’s death overnight.

According to Tennessee City Fire Rescue, at approximately 10:20 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a house in the 500 block of Grindstone Hollow Road that was heavily engulfed in smoke and flames.

The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office said patrol deputies also responded to the scene, where they found two residents who told them the homeowner, 71-year-old Andrew Kuhn, was still in the house.

The couple reportedly told investigators the house was on fire when they returned home Saturday night, but they went inside and found Kuhn unconscious. Authorities said the pair wasn’t able to remove Kuhn due to mobility issues and the fire.

Tennessee City Fire Rescue said crews worked to contain the fire despite multiple hazards on the property, such as a 500-gallon propane tank and a nearby shop building. With assistance from more than 10 agencies, the fire was extinguished by 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to Tennessee City Fire Rescue, the following agencies also helped with supplying water and extinguishing the fire: Dickson County Fire Rescue, Sylvia-Yellow Creek Fire Department, City of Dickson Fire, Hickman County Fire Rescue, Coble Fire, McEwen Fire, Dickson County EMA, Dickson Electric, Greater Dickson Gas Authority, Dickson County EMS, the sheriff’s office, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Officials said first responders removed Kuhn from the house, but he was already dead. In addition, law enforcement described the home as a “total loss.”

The sheriff’s office said no foul play is suspected at this time, adding, “Please keep the Kuhn family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

The cause of the fire is reportedly under investigation by the TBI, the sheriff’s office, and Tennessee City Fire Rescue. No additional information was immediately released.
