MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway following a deadly officer-involved shooting in Maury County.
22nd District Attorney General Brent Cooper told News 2 Sunday night that he asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to help investigate the shooting, which involved the Maury County Sheriff’s Department.
Cooper said Sunday, a suspect was seriously injured in the shooting, but no law enforcement officers were harmed. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released an update Monday morning that said the accused suspect, 22-year-old Jeremiah Dobbins, died from his injuries.
Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said his deputies were looking for a suspect from a shooting incident that happened in another jurisdiction. After one deputy made contact with the suspect, shots were reportedly fired.
The TBI reported similar findings, stating that a Maury County deputy arrived to a residence in the 900 block of Southport Road in Mount Pleasant on Sunday to search for the subject of a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) alert out of Lawrence County. Dobbins allegedly pulled out a weapon in front of the deputy, and the deputy fired multiple times. Dobbins was injured and taken to the hospital, where he later died.
No additional details have been confirmed about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
