Nashville man charged with attempted homicide after ramming police car, injuring officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville man has been charged with attempted criminal homicide after he reportedly hit a marked Metro police patrol car, injuring an officer.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 27-year-old Josiah Martin was treated at Nashville General Hospital and then taken to jail after the crash.

Police said Martin called 911 from the Belle Forest Condominium complex on Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue and said he was going to kill someone.

Metro police officer Nicholas Silinsky drove into the driveway of the condominium complex to look for Martin and saw a red pickup truck moving toward his patrol car. The truck was accelerating toward him, and Silinksy moved his patrol car to the right to try to avoid a collision, officials said.

According to the MNPD, the truck hit the patrol car on the driver’s side, and the patrol car went out of the driveway and down an embankment. Meanwhile, “the truck crashed onto its side adjacent to a nearby wood line.”

Authorities said officers smashed a window and took Martin into custody.

Silinsky suffered a non-critical leg injury in the crash, according to police.
