Maury County fire crews, state forestry contain several-acre brush fire

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Fire crews and Tennessee Division of Forestry personnel have contained a brush fire in Maury County on Friday evening.

The Maury County Fire Department said crews are in the 3700 block of Chesnut Ridge Road near Skelley Road for a brush fire.

“MCFD responded initially with 3 brush trucks and 2 engines. Members hiked in on foot and suppressed the fire line with hand tools and Indian Packs (Indian Packs are backpacks full of water with a sprayer) before turning the scene over to state forestry,” MCFD said.

MCFD said the fire has likely been burning, undetected, for most of the day.

Officials said the blaze is contained, but crews are still in the area to cut a fire line around the area due to numerous trees and deadfall burning inside and near the line.

“Expect smoke to linger in the area for the next couple of days. The fire will be monitored by State Forestry,” MCFD said.
