NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A female pedestrian died after she was hit by a vehicle on Brick Church Pike in Nashville Saturday night.
The crash happened near the intersection of Brick Church Pike and Moorewood Drive.
The unidentified pedestrian was hit by a Nissan Versa driven by a 17-year-old boy who initially left the scene, according to Metro police. After the crash, the teen went home and told his parents, who then called dispatch.
Before the crash was reported, a 25-year-old driver of a Ford Fusion told investigators he swerved going northbound on Brick Church Pike to avoid a mattress in the road when he thought he ran over a pot hole, according to a press release. When he reached home a few miles away, he found the woman’s body underneath the Fusion and called police.
Metro police noted the 25-year-old did not show any signs of impairment.
The 17-year-old told investigators he attempted to miss the woman, but was unable to avoid hitting her. The teen also said the woman was standing in the middle of the roadway on the double yellow lines as he was heading northbound on Brick Church Pike when she walked in front of his vehicle, according to Metro police.
The 17-year-old was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, not having a driver’s license, not having insurance and failure to report.
