New Prospect Firefighters responded to medical call with unresponsive person in school pickup like.

On 11/13/24 our units along with LCEMS, LCSD, & LCEMA responded to a high priority medical call at NPS. The call was given as unresponsive not breathing patient in the car line at the front of the school. Dept members arrived to find school staff already performed CPR on the patient and had already deployed the AED. This early intervention undoubtedly saved the patients life.

Our members immediately began assisting the school staff. On arrival of LCEMS Paramedics found the patient to have regained a pulse. Because the patient had suffered cardiac arrest a helicopter was requested by EMS to expedite definitive care for the patient. The patient was transported to AIR EVAC 110’s base and from there flown to Maury Regional Hospital for the nearest Cath Lab.

After speaking to the patient’s daughter today she advised that the heart cath was successful and her mother was doing well but still in serious condition today.

We appreciate the family allowing us to offer this update and continue sending prayers for full recovery to them.

Lawrence County Fire Rescue began its EMR program in 2014. This is another example of what your donations and support allow us to do to assist our community.

There is no doubt that the quick actions from the early recognition of cardiac arrest and early CPR/ Defibrillation by school staff were the true catalyst for this positive outcome. Without all the links of our emergency response from Lawrence Co E911, LCEMS, NPFD LCSD, LCEMA and assistance from AIR EVAC for prompt transport this could have been a different outcome. Thank you again for your support and please remember the family in your prayers.
