Man With Contrived Identity Charged With Filing A False Report
A man who fabricated personal information to avoid arrest during a traffic stop Friday was ultimately arrested on charges of filing a false police report.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report conducting a traffic stop at the May Street/Smith Avenue intersection at around 9:30 Friday night. During the stop they noticed that the passenger had a cup at his feet, in the floorboard. He told them that “it was a mixed drink that he was drinking.”
When they asked for identification, the man told officers that he had none. He then gave them a false name and social security number. When they asked a second time, officers report that he gave them a false social security number and birth date.
When the man was frisked, officers report finding his state-issued ID in his pocket along with a syringe and a spoon. He reportedly told them that he, “Didn’t want to give them his ID because he had warrants in Giles County.”
As a result Darren Benjamen Deak, 44, of 825 Violet Avenue was arrested on charges of filing a false police report, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of the open container law. He will answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on December 4, 2014.
