St. Joseph Police Chief Adam Brewer is reminding motorists to stop for school buses after an increase in drivers failing to do so within the city.
Brewer said the department has received multiple reports of vehicles not stopping when buses are picking up or dropping off children.
He cited Tennessee Code Annotated 55-8-151, which requires all traffic—both northbound and southbound—to stop for a school bus unless the highway is divided by a median or other space not suitable for travel.
A violation of the law carries eight points on a driver’s record. Brewer urged drivers to use caution and obey school bus stop signs to keep children safe.
