Resident Loses Cash In Lottery Scam
An Iron City resident filed a police report Thursday after falling victim to a lottery scam.
The victim, age 62, came to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department around 4:15 p.m. to report that he had received an email around 12:30 that day from Superprize.pch.com, informing him that he had been selected as the winner of a $950,000 cash prize and a new car.
The victim told deputies that he received a subsequent telephone call from a man who identified himself as Raymond Davis.
The victim said that Davis instructed him to obtain a Green Dot card at Walmart in the amount of $850 to pay the taxes on his winnings.
He said that during a second phone call Davis obtained the numbers from the card he had purchased, providing him access to the money.
The victim reported that Davis telephoned a third time around 3:00 p.m. to tell him that he needed to send an additional $1,700 before the funds could be released. At that point, he said he headed to the sheriff’s department to file a report.
Investigation into the crime is on-going at the current time.
