WAIRE GUILTY OF MURDERING SHARON GILLESPIE

Today, a Lawrence County jury found Brandon Waire, of Columbia, TN, guilty of Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault for the April 13, 2021 murder of Sharon Gillespie.

At about 8 p.m. on that date, Gillespie told a coworker at The Summit Lawrenceburg that she was going to step outside for a few minutes. Moments later, Gillespie collapsed in the foyer of the assisted living facility. She had been fatally shot.

Lt. Brent Hunter, with the Lawrenceburg Police Department was the lead Investigator on the case. Assistant District Attorneys Christi Thompson Cook and Hunter Knight were the prosecutors for the trial. Victim Witness Coordinator Kim Sandlin Magee assisted them greatly with the case and maintained contact with the Gillespie family.

"We are grateful for the verdict and the jury's diligence in this case. It was a long time in coming, but thanks to the hard work and persistence of Lt. Hunter, the Gillespie family can rest a little easier now. Our prayers are with them." Brent Cooper, District Attorney General.
