A NEW CHAPTER FOR LAWRENCE COUNTY EMS WITH 24/72!

Today, October 9th, at 0700, Lawrence County EMS officially transitioned to our 24/72 shift schedule!

This transition moves our responders from working 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off to 24 hours on duty followed by 72 hours off. While this is a change in scheduling, it represents something much bigger: an investment in our people, our agency, and the future of EMS in Lawrence County.

EMS is a demanding profession physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our responders show up every day ready to care for others, often during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
The 24/72 schedule helps us:

✅ Promote Responder Wellness: Provide the necessary recovery time to support mental health, resiliency, and overall well-being.
✅ Improve Work/Life Balance: Give our responders more time to spend with their families and enjoy life outside of work. This rotations ensures are responders have average weekly work hours similar to other healthcare professions and other careers.
✅ Support Recruitment & Retention: Align our scheduling practices with the evolving standards of EMS operations and help us remain competitive in attracting and retaining quality professionals.

✅ Maintain Readiness: Support rested, prepared crews who are ready to deliver exceptional pre-hospital care when our community needs us most.
While today is bittersweet for some of our responders as partners change and longtime friends move to different shifts, we are excited about the future ahead for Lawrence County EMS. We are also excited to welcome 10 new full time EMS responders to the LCEMS team. These individuals have been with us for several weeks completing orientation shifts, but today begins their official assignments. We believe this is an important step forward for our agency and the people who make our mission possible. Our commitment remains the same: providing the highest quality pre-hospital emergency medical care to the citizens and visitors of Lawrence County while ensuring we take care of the people who deliver that care.

We also want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to County Executive David Morgan and the Lawrence County Commission for approving this transition and investing in the future of Lawrence County EMS. Your support of emergency services and our responders makes a meaningful difference, and we sincerely appreciate your commitment to helping our agency serve our community when it matters most!
