Local Responders Prepare for Approaching Tropical Storm

LAWRENCEBURG, TN – Emergency response agencies across Lawrence County are coordinating preparations for the anticipated arrival of tropical storm conditions this weekend, with heavy rainfall and gusty winds expected to begin affecting the area on Saturday morning.
Representatives from Lawrence County law enforcement agencies, Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS), Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services (Ambulance Service), Lawrenceburg Utility System (LUS), Lawrenceburg Fire Department, Lawrence County Fire and Rescue, and other response agencies gathered Thursday at the Lawrenceburg / Lawrence County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for a weather and preparedness briefing.
The meeting included a briefing from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville and Lawrenceburg / Lawrence County EMA Director Shelton Barnett. Participants reviewed the anticipated weather conditions, potential hazards, and coordination of emergency response resources.
According to the briefing, heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to arrive in Lawrence County on Saturday morning. The primary concerns include flash flooding, downed trees, and possible power outages. Wind gusts of up to 45 mph are possible, and the potential for an isolated, brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
Emergency management officials encourage Lawrence County residents to take precautions ahead of the approaching weather system, including:
Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and other loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds.
Be prepared for possible power outages and have flashlights, batteries, and other emergency supplies available.
Avoid travel through flooded roadways. Never attempt to drive across a flooded road or low-water crossing.
Remain alert for falling trees, limbs, and downed power lines.
Monitor local weather reports and have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings, particularly during overnight hours.
Director Barnett emphasized the importance of advance preparation and continued coordination among emergency response agencies.
Lawrenceburg / Lawrence County EMA will continue monitoring weather developments in coordination with the National Weather Service and local response partners throughout the weekend.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware and follow official information from the National Weather Service and Lawrenceburg / Lawrence County EMA.
