Wilson Dam Road closure planned for six months

Wilson Dam Road will close beginning Oct. 5 as the Tennessee Valley Authority starts a major dam safety improvement project expected to last about six months.

The closure will affect drivers who regularly travel across Wilson Dam, and TVA is urging motorists to begin planning for alternate routes.

The project is expected to continue for approximately six months, although the timeline could change depending on weather and construction progress.

During the project, TVA will replace the chains on all 49 spillway gates at Wilson Dam.

TVA will also perform maintenance on Units 1 and 2 of the dam’s 21 generating units.

Drivers should plan ahead and allow additional travel time when using alternate routes during the closure.
