According to a press release, last week, the Lawrenceburg City Council passed an ordinance lowering the speed limit on US 43 (South Locust Avenue) to 45 mph,
starting at the existing 45 mph sign and going all the way to the south city limits. The vote was unanimous.
“We have been working hard for this speed amendment, as the number of accidents on this stretch of highway has been a growing concern,” stated Councilman Aaron Story.
The TDOT Region 3 Traffic Office examined crash data from December 2020 to December 2023 to perform a thorough traffic study on US 43, which was finished in January 2024.
The study found that speed had a major role in many of the 28 crashes, which included multiple injuries and one fatality.
The Traffic Office suggested raising the speed limit on US 43 to 45 mph and making adjustments to warning signage to increase safety.
