Lawrence County deputies arrested a woman, and an inmate for attempting to smuggle drugs into the jail.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office the incident occurred on Tuesday when a corrections officer caught Lesa Nix transporting the narcotics into the Lawrence County Courthouse in an attempt to pass the drugs to a inmate
The corrections officer notified deputies who arrested Nix on charges of introduction into a penal facility, possession for delivery(Methamphetamine), and possession for delivery (Schedule IV).
Belew was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit intro into a penal facility, and along with Nix is being held in the Lawrence County jail without bond.
Sheriff John Myers spoke on the intervention of drugs into the jail by saying, “I’d like to credit my excellent corrections staff in always being vigilant in preventing such incidents. Though working daily in the jail, the men and women who serve as corrections officers are very much apart of my department’s war on drugs, even when that front hits so close to home.”
