Lawrence County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a suspicious person where they caught an attempted burglary in progress.

 

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home on Waynesboro Highway around 1:40 AM on Thursday in reference to a suspicious person while en route dispatch advised them that the person was attempting to gain entry into the homeowner's residence.

Deputies arrived around 1:57 AM and held convicted felon Jason Paul Meckler, a convicted felon at gunpoint until he was taken into custody.

Deputies then went to Meckler's residence, described as an RV park just down the road from the home where the Sheriff's Office noticed drug paraphernalia and other firearms in plain view from outside the camper.

A search warrant was later issued and deputies searched the RV to find seven additional firearms, along with numerous amounts of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Meckler was charged with attempted aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of Schedule VI drugs, possession of Schedule III drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
