Subject: Fire Fatality

The purpose of this release is to provide an update on a fire response from September 9,2025. Our original release indicated that the fire had resulted in serious injuries. Sadly, we have since confirmed that the incident resulted in one fatality.

On September 9, 2025 Lawrence County Fire Rescue units responded to a reported brush fire on Rattlesnake Lane in the Leoma Fire District. During our response we were advised by Constable Tucker who was on scene that there was a patient on scene with significant burns and other injuries.

Our units assisted Lawrence County EMS and Constable Tucker with patient care while also working to contain the fire that had grown to nearly 5 acres. The patient was flown via air medical helicopter to a Level 1 Trauma Center. Despite the efforts of everyone involved we have learned that the patient has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the incident. An investigation into the incident indicates that the fire initiated from a riding lawnmower that spread to nearby grass and brush.

On a more personal note, the patient was a very good person that was known and loved by many in the community as well as his family. We ask that you join us in remembering this family in your thoughts and prayers.
