Representing Disabled Veterans, James Deatherage, was the guest speaker at Lawrenceburg Rotary Club's Friday meeting.

The Rotary Club of Lawrenceburg released the following information regarding their meeting on Friday:

"James Deatherage representing Disabled American Veterans (DAV) was the guest speaker at the Friday, September 18th meeting of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club.

DAV was founded in 1920 when over 200,000 wounded veterans returned from “the war to end all wars”. There were no VA or other programs available to assist veterans at that time, so DAV was founded in Cincinnati to provide that service.

The organization was formally recognized by congress in 1932. According to Deatherage DAV provides a voice for veterans in Washington DC and assists veterans in applying for and receiving federal benefits. The local chapter builds wheelchair ramps for veterans and their widows, carries veterans to and from medical appointments, and is planning improvements for Lawrenceburg’s Veteran’s Park.
