Lawrence County Sheriff's Office confronted a suspected burglar outside a house while he was armed with a gun early Thursday morning.

Thursday morning around 2:00 a.m. Members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office confronted a suspected burglar outside a house while he was armed with a gun.

Body camera footage shows a deputy with a gun pointed at a man who later was identified as 46-year-old Jason Paul Meckler who was walking away from the home and toward the law enforcement officer.

“Get out there in front of my truck. Drop to your knees,” the deputy instructed. “You got anything on you, I’m gonna drop you.”

According to Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers, Meckler was seen snooping around the homeowner’s front porch. Meanwhile, the homeowner was on the phone with 911, relaying what was reportedly happening.

“The homeowner saw this individual walking around his house on his security cameras. By the time deputies were about halfway way there, dispatch was telling them that this individual was trying to gain entry,” Myers explained

The deputy showed the gun to the corporal who had just arrived on scene, telling the corporal that Meckler reached behind his back and “about got toasted.”

Meckler is currently being held in the Lawrence County Jail for multiple felonies, including attempted aggravated burglary and possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
