Agenda Announced For September 24 County Commission Meeting

   Members of the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners will consider several items of business when they meet in regular session on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

   Commissioners will consider approval of a resolution that would increase the litigation fee levied in cases brought through local general sessions and juvenile courts from $1.00 to $2.00 per case.

Officials indicate that the extra funds would be used exclusively for the support of the local Victim-Offender Mediation Center.

   A resolution appearing on the agenda would appoint Dr. Michael Boyd as Medical Examiner for Lawrence County while abolishing the office of County Coroner.

   If approved, a resolution appearing on the agenda would provide matching funds for various grants received through local volunteer fire departments. Another resolution would allow for discounts or the discharge of hardship or charity accounts through the Lawrence County Ambulance Service.

   A resolution up for consideration would approve appropriations for various funds, departments, institutions, offices and agencies of Lawrence County for fiscal year 2012-2013.

One would fix the tax levy for the year ending June 30, 2013, another would provide approval for non-profit and charitable contributions, and another would outline distribution of the Hotel-Motel Tax.

   Up for consideration is a change of speed limit on Beartown Road in Loretto, approval of bonds for constables, and approval of financial reports.

   In addition commissioners will consider approval of numerous appointments for the current business year. These include:
*Appointment of Teresa Purcell as Director of Accounts and Budgets, and Purchasing Agent for Lawrence County
*Confirmation of appointment of a member to the Lawrenceburg/Lawrence County Municipal Airport board
*Election of a member to the Agricultural Extension Committee
*Appointment of members to the Lawrence County Emergency Communications Board
*Appointment of a member to the Buffalo River Regional Library Board
*Appointments to the county’s Budget Committee
*Approval of members of the county’s Purchasing Committee

   Commissioners will also be asked to approve bonds and financial reports of county officials.

   Also scheduled, commissioners will:
*Recognize Nathan Neese for graduating from the FBI Academy
*Honor Ethridge Elementary School for being named a Tennessee Reward School for the 2012-2013 school year
*Honor fifteen-year-old State Champion All Stars for placing third in the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Tournament in Lumberton, North Carolina
*Honor thirteen-year-old Babe Ruth All Stars for placing second in the Babe Ruth World Series
*Honor the Lawrenceburg All Stars in the 6 and under division for being runners-up in the state tournament

   The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County Courthouse, 240 West Gaines Street.
