NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department said a Brentwood teen died after being involved in a crash on Old Hickory Boulevard Saturday afternoon.
Police said 15-year-old Cheathan Babu was riding an electric motorcycle “at a high rate of speed” down the sidewalk along Old Hickory Boulevard near High Lea Road.
The MNPD said that at one point, Babu lost control of the electric motorcycle and was thrown, striking a fire hydrant. An eyewitness told authorities that Babu had been traveling at about 40 to 50 miles per hour on the sidewalk at the time of the crash.
“The preliminary contributing factors to this crash appear to be reckless driving and inexperience,” police added in a press release.
The deadly crash happened days after 33-year-old James Sellars of Hendersonville was also killed in a hit-and-run crash along Old Hickory Boulevard, leading to area leaders to call for increased traffic safety along the roadway.
“Most of the conversations I’ve had about Old Hickory Boulevard have been with the Traffic Division as well as Chief Drake,” Metro Councilmember Jeff Eslick told News 2 earlier this week. “I’m looking for better enforcement of speeding laws across the city, but especially in that area.”
