The organization doubled its goal in raising money for The Doggie House – Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter
September 3, 2024, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee: Friends of Lawrence County Animals is thrilled to announce the success of our recent fundraising event, “An Evening with Friends at Soulshine Farm”, which raised over $20,0000.00 on Saturday, August 24. The money will go to purchase play yards for The Doggie House - Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter, a municipal facility which also serves Lawrence County.
“Thanks to the generous contributions of our community, we exceeded our goal, and every dollar raised will directly benefit our shelter animals,” said Rosalind O’Steen Fort, FOLCA President. Over 180 people attended the dinner. O’Steen Fort continued, “The funds raised will make a significant impact for years to come on the lives of many shelter animals, providing them with much-needed socialization and time outside She continued, “The success of this event would not have been possible without the help of our dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and, of course, the generous attendees. We extend our deepest gratitude to the citizens of Lawrence County for their unwavering support.”
During the event, other successes were highlighted since the organization’s inception four years ago by Past President, Leigh Ann Pettus, which included:
-Raising over 350,000. for the new shelter building,
-Spaying and neutering over 750 Lawrence County dogs and cats to-date through the organization’s Lawrence County SNIPS! Program, thanks to annual appropriations granted from the Lawrence County Commission,
-Creating a local animal welfare resource page for local law enforcement and 911 operators to use when dealing with animal-related calls from the community.
Pettus also mentioned future initiatives like working with the Chamber on making Lawrenceburg and other Lawrence County communities “Pet Friendly”. She explained that this certification is good for the business community as well as Lawrence County residents and animals. And she added the organization plans to work with the Lawrence County School System on programs which educate students on how they can get more involved in helping to take care of the family pets.
