MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities responded to reports of a truck that had crashed into a home Tuesday morning.
Maury County 911 officials told News 2 that they initially received reports of the crash around 9:05 a.m. from the 2000 block of Dr. Robertson Road.
News 2 spoke with Emily Allen, who is the homeowner.
“There is a lot of damage,” Allen said. “The front porch has fallen. We can’t get in one side of the house; the power is out and shut down just to be safe.”
Allen said she’s asked county officials for years to lower the speed limit or put in speed bumps. She said those requests have gone unanswered.
“I’ve feared for over three years that this was going to happen,” she said. “I knew it was going to happen eventually, and today was the day.”
A witness at the scene who asked to be called Miss Sunshine told News 2 that she had been sitting on a rocking chair on the porch when the truck came “barreling down” the road toward the home, causing her to jump out of the way to avoid injury.
She added that she had been outside on the porch watching cars drive by for much of the weekend and many, she claimed, had been speeding.
“To have rain in the mix on these roads — it makes it really dangerous,” Sunshine said. “People just really need to take their time whether it’s raining or not. We have these streets. We have speed limits for a reason.
Bucky Rowland, Maury County Sheriff, said in a statement to News 2 that the roadway “has its fair share of incidents,” adding that the Sheriff’s Office receives “several complaints” about both speeding and commercial vehicles.
No injuries were reported as a result of this crash. Though animals were inside the home at the time of the crash, Sunshine told News 2 that they were safe if only shaken up.
“I’m ever so grateful to just be here right now and to be able to see the young man get out of the truck and he be all right,” Sunshine said.
The Maury County Fire Department is investigating.
