Relay For Life Teams Make Final Fundraising Push
Final fundraising efforts are underway by Lawrence County Relay For Life teams, as the 2008 Relay season winds to a close.
More than $75,000 has been donated so far to the 2008 Relay For Life of Lawrence County, which raises money and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.
The 2008 Relay was held on Saturday, August 9 at Lawrenceburg’s Rotary Park with 35 teams setting up camp to take part in the overnight event. Hundreds of people took part in the emotional luminaria ceremony which honors cancer survivors and pays tribute to cancer victims. More than 1,500 luminarias were sold this year, with the lights lining the track at Rotary Park. New to this year’s Relay were the live auction and hilarious Womanless Beauty Pageant, which together raised more than $2,000.
Donations to Relay For Life of Lawrence County continue to be accepted on the web at www.event.cancer.org/lawrence or through any of this year’s team captains, committee members, or chairs.
Anyone who has been involved in this year's event or those interested in getting involved with Relay For Life 2009 is invited to a Wrap-Up Celebration on Thursday, August 28th at WLX on North Locust Avenue. New committee members, sponsors and teams are needed to grow with us. Call 615.341.7308 for more information.
