Quick action by Colbert County deputies is being credited with saving the life of a two-week-old infant early Thursday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m. on August 21, deputies responded to the intersection of Highways 43 and 72, where they encountered a distraught mother holding her baby who was not breathing.
Deputies Luke Truitt, Dakota Harper, and Frank Anderson, under the direction of Lt. Michael Terrell, immediately intervened. Deputy Anderson secured the infant and began lifesaving measures while riding in Truitt’s patrol car. The deputies, with assistance from Tuscumbia Police, ran a code escort to Helen Keller Hospital.
Thanks to their efforts, the child arrived safely at the ER and received immediate treatment. Hospital staff later confirmed the infant is expected to recover.
The Colbert County Sheriff’s Office praised the deputies’ quick thinking, professionalism, and dedication to preserving life, calling their response an example of the department’s commitment to the community.
