Investigation is begun into alleged forgery incident

Lawrenceburg Now

An investigation was initiated through the Lawrenceburg Police Department last week after an employee of Rite Aid discovered a check that had been forged

Officers spoke with the manager who reported that a customer had apparently used a forged check to pay for her prescription medication.

Reports show that the woman had used a check bearing the name and information of a local married couple. She said that it "looked like the check had originally expired on 9-17-05," but that someone had used an ink pen to change the date to 9-17-25.

The manager reported that she had contacted the bank officials with the listed branch and that she learned that it "was not one of their checks."

The manager said she had made attempts to contact the customer in question. She was able to get an answer on the phone number once, but was told the customer was not there. When she attempted to call the number afterwards, she found that her number had been blocked.

Total loss was listed as $100. The case currently remains under investigation by detectives with the police department's Criminal Investigation Division.
