Wilson County Sheriff's K-9 Boscoe alerts on vehicle containing crystal meth and heroin during traffic stop by Directed Patrol.

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office released the following information on Thursday:

"LEBANON (TN) - Cpl. Logan Hackett conducted a traffic stop Tuesday morning on a vehicle that was traveling inbound on Hartsville Pike where illegal narcotics were eventually found with the assistance of K-9 Boscoe.

The driver of the white Dodge Durango, Kevin Eugene Melton of Madison (TN), was initially cited for his 2nd offense of driving on a revoked license. Cpl. Hackett then asked Melton for consent to search his vehicle in which he denied.

Deputy Remington Clawson then asked the passenger, Nicole Kristine England of Madison (TN), to step out of the vehicle. Deputy Clawson deployed K-9 Boscoe to check for illegal drugs and alerted on the driver’s side door of the Durango.

Deputy Clawson located on the driver’s side a black bag that contained 3.4 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, 5 grams of heroin, 16 oxycodone pills, 4 grams of marijuana, a set of working digital scales with crystal residue and a glass pipe with burnt residue.

While searching the passenger seat area, Deputy Clawson located a purse belonging to England that contained a clear baggie with crystal methamphetamine and a glass pipe with burnt residue.

“Traffic stops can be very challenging and the most dangerous to handle because you never know what you are going to find or the risk of what could happen,” stated Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan. “Boscoe alerted on the vehicle and we were able to take more illegal drugs off the streets. Directed Patrol has been proactive and efficient in locating illegal narcotics in a high percentage of their traffic stops.”

Melton was booked into the Wilson County Jail on charges of simple possession, possession of SCH I with intent for resale, possession of SCH VI with intent for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on revoked (2nd offense) and possession of methamphetamine for resale. England was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia."
