Purchases Made With Resident’s Stolen Debit Card
Law enforcement officials were asked to investigate the theft of a debit card Monday, after the owner discovered it had been used to make purchases at local businesses.
The victim, a twenty-seven-year-old resident of Deerhollow Drive, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that several items had been stolen out of her car Saturday night/Sunday morning while it was parked outside the home of a friend in the Five Points area.
The victim indicated she had left around 9:p.m. Friday with a group of friends, leaving her car parked at 693 Revilo Road. When she returned around 2:00 a.m., she discovered her car had been burglarized. Taken were a debit card, checkbook, Social Security Card and a health insurance card.
Around noon Sunday, the victim reports her card was used at Walmart where the culprit made purchases totaling $499.23. The card was used a second time, she said, at Fall River Market, where purchases totaled $22.83.
The case has been handed over for further investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
