The TBI along with the Lawrenceburg Police Department are investigating a case where well over 900 pounds of illegal hemp was found in Lawrence County.

According to reports the TBI and the Lawrenceburg Police Department are Investigating after a illegal hemp bust occurred on Wednesday.

Lawrenceburg authorities discovered a large amount of hemp enriched with THC, the chemical compound in cannabis that gets you high.

The illegal hemp, that tested above .03% THC, was found in a building on Pulaski Highway, near Gimlet Road where Lawrenceburg Police Chief Terry Beechman told WSMV News 4 that investigators were combing through the building to figure out how many pounds of illegal hemp police are dealing with.

Lawrenceburg Police Department officers were working along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to process well over 900 pounds of hemp. Beechman said by the time investigators are done, that number could rise to several tons.

At this time this is an active investigation, and no further details have been released.
