Tip Results In Meth Charges
A tip regarding possible drug activity at a Lawrenceburg home Friday led to meth manufacturing charges being placed against one resident.
Jamie Franklin Wray, 26, was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of promotion of the process to manufacture methamphetamine, initiation of the process to manufacture meth, possession of Schedule II narcotics (meth), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that drug agents made their way to 818 Gilbreath Drive at 3:15 Friday afternoon. After obtaining written consent from the homeowner to conduct a search of the premises, and written consent from Wray to search his bedroom, they report seizing numerous items of contraband.
In the bedroom, agents report finding in a trash bag two cold packs from which ammonia nitrate had extracted. A ziplock bag lying on the bed reportedly contained used coffee filters, a “tooter” straw, empty cigarette packs and approximately one gram of a substance believed to be meth.
A bag concealed inside a bathroom linen closet was found to contain additional contraband, including lye, salt, sulfuric acid, tubing, homemade fittings, pliers, black tape, a funnel, thirty Claritin-D blister packs, a mixing bowl, coffee filters and sandwich bags.
On the carport agents found a bag concealed beneath a lawnmower hood. Reports show it contained a one gallon can of Coleman fuel and thirteen lithium batteries.
Agents consulted with members of the Tennessee Meth Task Force concerning proper disposal. Because there were no mixtures they were not required to house the contraband in a designated container at the local Tennessee Highway Patrol office. Instead they were able to dispose of the items as normal household chemicals.
Franklin has been assigned an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 23, 2011.
