Family Escapes Unharmed From House Fire

A family of three escaped from their Leoma home unharmed Saturday night after a fire ignited near the back porch.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies were dispatched to 11 Marston Road at 10:20 p.m. The home was occupied by residents Lisa and Jerry Alton Cox, Jr., and their son.

Lisa Cox reported she had been awakened by a loud pop. Before she could get her bearings, however, she heard a second loud popping noise. She then reports that she noticed a bright light at the rear of their home.

The couple reported they went to investigate and opened their back door to find the back porch and rear wall had caught fire. They said that they shut the door, retrieved their son, then quickly made their way to the out the front door before placing a 911 call.

The blaze was extinguished by members of the Leoma and Centerpoint Fire Departments. Reports show that the fire ignited in the rear wall, near the water heater.
