Lawrence County – Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter Participates in Nationwide “Clear the Shelters” Campaign
The Lawrence County – Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter (formerly known as The Doggie House) is joining the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign throughout the month of August to find loving homes for its many adoptable dogs.
The shelter is currently housing 122 dogs, despite a comfortable capacity of only eighty, and is urgently seeking adopters, fosters, and volunteers from the community.
Clear the Shelters, a program launched nationally in 2015, has helped more than one million animals across the U.S. find permanent homes. This year’s event runs through August 31, and features reduced-cost adoptions and special community events at shelters nationwide.
Locally, the Lawrence County shelter will host open-house adoption events every Saturday in August from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 815 Gaither Ave, Lawrenceburg. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the dogs, many of whom will be in outdoor play yards or walking with volunteers.
Adoption fees will be reduced to just $20, and every adopter will receive a gift bag filled with pet toys and gift certificates from local businesses.
Those unable to adopt at this time are encouraged to consider fostering a dog. All supplies, including food and medical care, are provided by the shelter — fosters simply supply the love and temporary home.
In addition, the shelter will celebrate DOGUST — the universal birthday for shelter dogs — on Friday, August 1st, with extended hours until 7:00 p.m. Community members are invited to stop by to wish the dogs a happy birthday, drop off treats, inquire about fostering or volunteering, or adopt a dog — giving them the ultimate birthday gift: a forever home.
