The Middle Tennessee District Fair Concert performance has been canceled, but the fair is still scheduled to take place in Lawrence County.

The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club released the following statement regarding changes to the 2020 Middle Tennessee District Fair:

"The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club has announced several changes for the 2020 Middle Tennessee District Fair.  The Riley Green Concert scheduled for Monday evening, September 28 has been cancelled and the fair opening date has been moved from Monday September 28 to Thursday, September 24.  According to fair organizers, both of these changes are being made to reduce Covid-19 exposure through close contact in normally crowded environments.

Riley Green is an energetic entertainer whose fans like to stand in a large group close to the stage.  This poses an unacceptable health risk for our guests and steps needed to ensure a safe event would greatly inhibit their concert experience.  Therefore, in consultation with the artist, decision has been made to cancel the Riley Green Concert for 2020.

The early opening date was requested by our carnival midway in order to reduce crowd size and waiting times during busy Friday and Saturday periods.  By having a ten day event that includes two weekends of midway operation, the same number of guests will be able to attend the fair with fewer people on the fairgrounds at any particular time.  This will help to promote social distancing and reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

The Middle Tennessee District Fair is the largest single event in Lawrence County.  Thousands of guests look forward to attending the fair every year, and there are numerous organizations who depend on MTDF for their outreach and fundraising activities.  Concessionaires and carnival providers also depend on our fair and others like it for their livelihoods. There are many residents who will choose not to attend this year’s event, but organizers have heard from many who are looking forward to experiencing the sights and sounds that are the hallmark of our fair.  We believe that local residents should be given the opportunity to choose.

The Rotary Club is taking steps needed today to insure that the fair can be ready to open in a safe and responsible manner in September.  Fair organizers are carefully monitoring the situation where much can change, therefore additional adjustments may be needed between now and opening day.  We ask for the public’s understanding and hope that our many supporters will join us at Lawrenceburg Rotary Park on September 24th thru October 3rd for the 2020 Middle Tennessee District Fair."
