Stolen Vehicle Found At Crash Site
A vehicle reported stolen from a shop in the Goodhope Road area overnight Wednesday was later found abandoned at a crash site.
Owner Edna Lynn Harper reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that she had left her 1999 Dodge Caravan with a mechanic on Goodhope Road, who was to install a new computer system. Around 9:30 Wednesday, she said he telephoned to inform her that the vehicle had been stolen from his shop. He told deputies that he had been working to remove a transmission from another vehicle. When he took a smoke break and walked outside, he discovered that the van was missing.
Deputies quickly issued a BOLO (Be On the LookOut), warning law enforcement officers to watch for the vehicle.
Around 1:00 a.m., deputies were notified by Lawrence Central Dispatch that a wreck had been reported on Goodhope Road that involved a van. Deputies made their way to the scene and were able to positively identify the wrecked van as the stolen vehicle.
Loss as a result of the crime is estimated to total $6,000.
