Man Arrested for Public Intoxication and Driving on Suspended License After Vehicle Stuck in Creek

On July 9, deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to a welfare check in the N. Chisholm Creek Road area after a vehicle was reported stuck in a creek.

Officers arrived on scene to find a silver Toyota lodged in the middle of the creek with a male driver inside. When approached, the man exited the vehicle and explained he had taken a wrong turn while driving at night, which led him into the creek.

The driver stated he was trying to reach a friend’s house on Idaho Road but was far from that location. When asked for identification, the man searched both his car and bag before producing a California ID card.

Deputies noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man, who admitted to drinking wine. His pupils were dilated, and he appeared confused about how he ended up in the creek. Based on these observations, deputies arrested him for public intoxication.

Further investigation revealed the man was driving on a suspended license. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and booked without incident on charges of public intoxication and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was removed from the creek and impounded.
