Resident Indicted In 2009 Traffic Death
An indictment has been returned against a resident of the southern portion of the county in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred more than a year ago.
The single vehicle crash was investigated by Trooper Jamie Benefield with the Tennessee Highway Patrol on April 19, 2009. He reported that driver Steven Brock Tidwell, then 21, of 129 Beartown Road, Loretto, was traveling eastbound along Holley Creek Road in the Iron City area in a 2000 Pontiac around 7:00 p.m. Benefield, indicated the car ran off the roadway on the right shoulder, struck a culvert, went airborne, overturned, then came to rest on the roof.
While Tidwell and passenger Matthew Seth Chambers, 28, of 82 West Second Street, Iron City, sustained injuries in the crash, passenger Gregory Tidwell, age 38, of 8075 Dodd Road, Cypress Inn, was killed.
After considering evidence in the case a Lawrence County Grand Jury opted to return an indictment against Tidwell, charging him with one count of vehicular homicide. Tidwell is scheduled to answer the charge in Lawrence County Circuit Court on Monday, August 9, 2010.
