Witnesses Find Dog Locked Inside Hot Car
Police officers issued animal neglect charges against a Loretto resident on Friday after some individuals discovered that she had left her dog locked inside a hot car at midday.
Three female witnesses met a Lawrenceburg Police officer in the parking lot at Walmart just before noon. They reported that the owner had been away from the car for around thirty minutes.
The officer reported that the Yorkshire terrier was panting, had no water, and was obviously hot. He went inside and had the owner paged. She returned to her car about five minutes later.
The owner told the officer that she had gone in to have a spare key made and that she had not been away long. He instructed her to turn on the air conditioner to cool the dog, then wrote her a citation, charging her with one count of animal cruelty.
