Self driving vehicle pickups are now available through the Waymo app to everyone in Nashville, whether you’re a local or a visitor.

You’ve probably already seen these fully autonomous vehicles on Nashville’s streets over the past few months, operating for test drives and for tens of thousands of riders from Waymo’s initial interest list. Now, anyone in Music City can download the Waymo app and immediately hail a fully autonomous vehicle, according to the company.
Waymo’s initial 60-square-mile service area covers the most iconic spots in Music City, including Broadway, 12South, Midtown, and East Nashville. In addition, the company said it’s currently testing rides at Nashville International Airport and planning to offer access to Waymo through the Lyft app later this year.
However, Waymo has faced a few challenges since it opened its passenger doors to the public in Nashville in early April, as well as the weeks prior to that. For example, News 2 spoke with residents in the 12South and Woodbine neighborhoods who shared traffic and safety concerns sparked by the self-driving cars.
Metro also received dozens of complaints through hubNashville about driverless vehicles. In addition, News 2 obtained body camera video showing a Waymo blocking Broadway traffic on a busy Friday night, just a few days after the company officially started offering rides.
