Subject: Simultaneous Crash Responses

At approximately 5:47 this morning Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle injury crash involving a utility pole in the Henryville Fire District. First arriving units confirmed multiple lines down across the highway that were impeding traffic flow on the State Route. Our units remained on scene for quite some time assisting with traffic control and providing scene safety for work crews.

At approximately 6:09 this morning while our units were operating at the crash on Turnpike, Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle rollover crash with serious injuries in the Iron City Fire District. First arriving units reported a single vehicle down an approximately 15 foot embankment with the vehicle coming to rest in against a tree.

Iron City units reported that additional resources including a rope rescue team would be needed to extract the patient with serious injuries from the crash site. The LCFR/LFD rope rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. LCFR personnel already on scene with Lawrence County EMA, Lawrence County EMS, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol worked together to build a rope system with equipment already on the scene.

The agencies worked together to safely extract the patient back up to the roadway while providing patient care. The patient was then transported by Lawrence County EMS to a nearby landing zone where Saint Joseph Fire Department and Air Evac 110 were standing by to transport the patient to a Level 1 Trauma Center.

We are thankful for the working relationships between all of the agencies involved, and the increase in investment to public safety agencies in Lawrence County by our County Mayor and Commission over the past couple of years. Even when resources are limited due to high call volume, our personnel always seem to work together to make things happen.
