Former School Superintendent Dies

   Former Lawrence County Superintendent of Schools, Dan Putman, 68, passed away on Monday.

   A forty-year employee of the Lawrence County School System, Putman began his career as a teacher in 1963 at Iron City Elementary School. He later taught at Loretto High School.

   Putman served as Principal at Summertown and David Crockett Elementary Schools before serving as Superintendent of Schools from 1976 until 1984. Afterwards, he returned to Summertown Elementary School where he served as principal until his retirement in 2003.
