Instance Of Animal Cruelty Under Investigation
Law enforcement officers were called upon during the weekend to investigate an apparent instance of animal neglect/cruelty.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to a home on Grace Lane shortly after 8:30 Saturday evening. The resident reported that a neighbor’s pit bull dog had come to his home and appeared to be malnourished.
The resident told deputies that he had fed and watered the dog, and that it ate all of the food very quickly. The deputy noted that the dog’s ribs were visible and it did, indeed, appear to be malnourished.
The resident stated that he had only lived at the residence a brief time, but had only seen the dog’s owner on a couple of occasions. He said that she had not been home during the past two days.
Deputies’ efforts to contact the owner proved unsuccessful. Photos were taken to document the dog’s condition. Investigation into the matter is on-going at the current time.
