Farm Machinery Accident
Shortly after 10:00AM today Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a farm machinery accident. Initial dispatch information from E-911 indicated that a female patient had been pinned underneath the equipment for approximately 20 minutes. Operators at the 911 center continued to try to gather more information, but it was extremely difficult due to spotty cellular service.
Personnel immediately recognized the location of the emergency and were aware that there was going to be difficulty accessing the scene with apparatus and equipment. A two person rescue company being staffed today with volunteers at the LCFR Station responded immediately to the scene where they were joined by personnel from nearby LCFR stations as well as personnel from Emergency Management, Lawrence County EMS, and Lawrence Co Sheriff’s Office. Once on the scene personnel worked together to establish a staging area while they attempted to access the immediate scene with hydraulic rescue tools, air bags, chains, and medical equipment.
Our personnel made contact with the patient who was trapped under the tractor on a steep hillside and initiated patient care. The rescue team worked together to stabilize the tractor to prevent it from further injuring the patient and first responders. The team then utilized air bags and hydraulic rescue tools to lift the tractor off of the patient while Lawrence Co.
EMS personnel arrived on scene and took over patient care. After the tractor was lifted off of the patient the team worked together to get the patient back to the staging area where the ambulance and more responders were waiting to assist. The patient was transported by an Advanced Life Support Unit from Lawrence County EMS to Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital. The patient was then transported by ground via Lawrence County EMS to a Trauma Center for continuation of care.
While this rescue operation was being conducted personnel were simultaneously responding to other emergency calls across the County. While our personnel and resources were spread thin, we requested that Lawrenceburg Fire Department be placed on standby in the event that additional resources were needed for this incident or any other call. As they always do when we request, LFD honored our request and moved personnel our way.
We are grateful for strong working relationships with neighboring agencies.
