Downtown Lawrenceburg Selected for 2025 AARP Community Challenge Grant

Lawrenceburg, TN — Downtown Lawrenceburg is proud to announce that it has been selected as a 2025 AARP Community Challenge grantee, one of only 383 projects chosen nationwide out of more than 3,450 applications. This initiative, funded by AARP Livable Communities and AARP Tennessee, supports quick-action projects that help communities become more livable for people of all ages.

Through this grant, Downtown Lawrenceburg will launch a portable mini golf experience designed to promote physical activity, fun, and connection in the heart of the community. The setup will appear at events and activities throughout the year, encouraging movement, low-impact exercise, and social engagement—especially for those age 50+ who are seeking creative, accessible ways to stay active and involved.

“We are incredibly proud that AARP selected Downtown Lawrenceburg for this investment to make our community more livable for residents of all ages,” said Michele Gantz, Downtown Lawrenceburg Executive Director. “This grant allows us to bring an innovative, joyful project to life that aligns with our mission of building a vibrant and inclusive downtown.”

The portable mini golf course will be designed with mobility, accessibility, and pure play in mind—offering a fun, casual way to bring people together, get moving, and enjoy public space during community festivals, Final Fridays, and special downtown events.

About the AARP Community Challenge

The AARP Community Challenge grant program funds short-term projects that lead to long-term impact in areas such as public spaces, transportation, housing, digital connectivity, community health, and civic engagement.

In 2025, AARP is joined by national partners Toyota Motor North America—supporting projects that improve pedestrian safety—and Microsoft, which is helping expand broadband access through digital connections initiatives.

This grant is part of AARP’s broader Livable Communities work, which supports neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country in becoming great places to live for people of all ages. AARP advocates for communities that offer safe, walkable streets; accessible and affordable housing and transportation; and opportunities for everyone to participate in civic and social life.
