Youngsters Report Intruder Inside Home
Three youngsters left home alone during the weekend telephoned their mother at work when a man began to watch them, then entered their residence.
The mother of two of the girls summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to the Dry Weakley Road, Ethridge home around 2:40 p.m. Saturday. She said the girls, ages 12, 13, and 15, had called her at work to inform her that a man had come inside their residence.
The girls told deputies that they had been outside when they first spotted the suspicious man. He was reportedly lying in the woods behind the house, watching them. After a time, the girls said the man got up, walked to the back door, opened it, then went inside.
They told deputies that they went to investigate and found the man sitting on a bed. When he saw them, they said he stood up, then left the home, running into the woods at the rear of the residence.
The mom told deputies that she had conducted a quick sweep of the home, discovering that $300 in cash had been stolen.
At the time of the crime, the man was reportedly wearing a grey shirt and black pants. Anyone who might have information about his identity is urged to contact the sheriff’s department at 762-3626.
