Tennessee Trooper Involved in Shooting!
Tennessee Highway Patrol
Sullivan County, Tenn. — At approximately 11 p.m. today, a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper assigned to the Fall Branch District was involved in a shooting while investigating a property damage crash near the intersection of State Route 394 and Highway 11W in Sullivan County.
Preliminary information indicates that during the course of the investigation, a male subject displayed a weapon and posed an immediate threat to the trooper. In response to the threat, the trooper discharged his service weapon, striking the individual.
The trooper was not injured.
Emergency medical services transported the individual to a local trauma center. The incident remains under investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
As with all officer-involved shootings, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been requested to lead the independent investigation.
