Florence Police Find an Armed Burglary Suspect After Community Tips

At 8:50 AM on May Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, Florence Police officers arrived at the 500 block of Larimore Street in reference to an ongoing burglary.

After breaking into the house, the suspect aimed a gun at the occupant. When the FPD officer arrived, the subject fled the area.

Officers identified the suspect as Cory Gilchrist, 36, of Florence, AL, after speaking with the victim on the scene. Additionally, Gilchrist had outstanding arrest warrants from the Florence Police Department.

After investigating the nearby locations, officers were unable to find the suspect. On the same day, at approximately 1:30 PM, FPD officers received a tip that Gilchrist was close to the intersection of Mobile Street and Washington Street. Even though Gilchrist was carrying a weapon, officers arrived and swiftly and safely took him into custody. Gilchrist was arrested and charged with Burglary 1st Degree and Domestic Violence 3rd- Menacing.

While awaiting a hearing under Aniah’s Law, Gilchrist is being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bond. The department gave a special thanks to the community for continuing to keep the city safe and calling to inform police of tips to help solve investigations.
