BOAT OPERATION

Yesterday at 5:34PM units were dispatched to a water rescue at Chickasaw Park at the boat ramp. An adult male with autism had entered the water and was swept downstream. Two male bystanders saw the person struggling and also entered the water to try to rescue the individual. All three subjects went down river, out of sight of the 911 caller.

Responding units: Rescue 21, Boat and Utility 21, Brush 26, Safety 20, OPS 20, Deputy 20.

Maury County Sheriff's Department and Maury Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrived and quickly found all three subjects several hundred yards down river, safe and uninjured on the river bank below a steep ledge.

A boat was launched and successfully retrieved all three subjects. The heroism of these two bystanders undoubtedly saved a life.

We continue to encourage swimmers, kayakers, and boaters to wear Coast Guard approved life jackets while enjoying activities on the water this summer.

Special thanks to Maury County 911 for the excellent job they did handling this call.
