Lawrenceburg Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Captain Avenue after couple finds loaded rifle in backyard.

The Lawrenceburg Police Department responded on Saturday in reference to found property at a residence on Captain Avenue where the homeowners told police that they discovered a rifle in their backyard.

According to the couple they had returned home where they was backing their trailer close to the backyard when they noticed a rifle on the ground in the leaves, and grass.

The husband told officers that he retrieved the rifle to make sure it wasn't loaded, and found out the firearm was in fact loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition where he then proceeded to unload the rifle before calling police.

Officers noticed that the rifle did not have any legible serial numbers on it where someone had removed, and altered the serial number.

The rifle along with the ammunition was seized, and at this time no further details have been released.
