Lawrenceburg Leaders Working Toward Balancing Proposed Budget

The City of Lawrenceburg is now in the black on its proposed 2008-2009 budget.
The city started out $900,000 in the hole, but reduced the shortfall to around $300,000 by cutting department head requests. Further department cuts have resulted in the city being $49,000 to the good.
The proposed budget includes a $50 per month increase to all city employees on their health insurance coverage. The savings, however, will barely cover a 7% insurance premium hike.
Current projected revenues include a $2 residential sanitation increase, included in this year’s budget but never implemented. Officials say the increase is needed to help address a shortfall in the Sanitation Department budget.
The commission will hold its remaining budget work sessions each Thursday at 8:30 a.m. until the budget process is complete.
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
