Giles County Jail Ranks First in Tennessee Employment and Reentry Pilot Program Completion Rate

A groundbreaking pilot program in Tennessee is creating new opportunities for individuals in custody through workforce development, education, and personal growth. The Employment and Reentry Pilot Program, launched in January across more than 30 county jails statewide, has already demonstrated measurable success, with the Giles County Jail achieving the highest program completion rate in the State of Tennessee.

The program provides participants with Workforce, Education, and Reentry Tablets that offer access to job-readiness training, educational courses, and skill-building opportunities while incarcerated. Individuals enrolled in the program can earn certificates of completion and work toward industry-recognized credentials designed to improve employment opportunities upon release.

Among all participating facilities, the Giles County Jail distinguished itself as the top-performing facility in Tennessee, achieving a 68.4% completion rate across 38 enrollments. Participants completed coursework in several high-demand career fields, including Pathway to Appliance Repair, Pathway to Electrical Support, Advanced Manufacturing Technician, CNC Machining Center Production and Pathway to Facilities Maintenance.

Additionally, eleven participants successfully earned two credentials, while two participants earned three separate credentials during the program.

The success of this initiative also reflects the dedication and determination of the inmates who chose to participate in the program and take meaningful steps toward improving their future. Their willingness to pursue education and workforce training demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and successful reintegration into society.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Office would also like to recognize Lt. Turner for her hard work and dedication in mentoring and assisting participants throughout the program, helping many successfully complete their coursework and certifications.

Due to the program’s success among participating agencies, the Employment and Reentry Pilot Program will now be expanded statewide across Tennessee correctional facilities. Programs such as this not only provide individuals with valuable skills and a second chance at success, but also help address workforce shortages and reduce recidivism rates throughout the state.
